- Conficker
Conficker,
aka Downadup or Kido, appeared last November. The worm is
self-replicating and has attacked a vulnerability in computers
using the Microsoft Windows operating system. It can
infect machines via an Internet connection or by hiding on USB
memory drives used to transfer data from one computer to
another. Once in a computer, it digs deeps, setting up defenses
that make eradication difficult.
The reason
for the hype and the public concern around Conficker is that
on April 1, 2009, the worm was set to change the way it updates itself,
moving to a system that is much harder to combat.
The easiest way to protect yourself from
Conficker is to keep your Windows environment updated.
Also, run a good antivirus application and keep it updated.
We recommend Microsoft Forefront Client Security.
